How To Choose A Lithium Battery for Your RVs

Are you looking to replace the battery in your RV, camper or van? Are you considering upgrading your lead acid batteries to lithium batteries? Here's a simple guide to what type of batteries you need, how to choose the right size battery pack for your RV, and how much solar energy you need to be self-sufficient and completely off the grid.

How to Power Your RV

RVs, campers and vans have two types of batteries. One is the starter battery or main Battery, which is used to start the RV. Keep in mind that main batteries do not supply power to your RV’s household appliances.
For that purpose, a second battery is utilized to power your appliances such as air conditioner, hairdryer, microwave, electric heater, fridge etc. This is the deep cycle battery, also called a house battery, the living battery or secondary battery.

What Type of Lithium Battery Do You Need for Your RV?

Class A Motorhome

This is as close as you can get to a home-on-wheels. Bedrooms are available as well as baths and kitchens, and they also feature plenty of storage. House batteries, a generator, and/or solar power will be required to power all of your systems.

Typical Power System: 12-24 Volt systems powered by banks of 12V Lithium ion batteries
Shore Power Service: 50 Amp (Maximum Current)
Aolithium Battery Replacement: 12V100Ah (connection with Max 2 batteries serial or 4 batteries parallel)

Class B Camper Van
These vehicles, also known as camper vans, are more streamlined, space-efficient, and designed for outdoor activities. These automobiles are also less expensive to operate and more common than ever before. Optional solar panels or more storage space can be added to the roof if desired.

Typical Power System: 12-24 Volt systems powered by banks of 12V Lithium ion batteries
Shore Power Service: 30 - 50 Amp (Maximum Current)
Aolithium Battery Replacement: 12V100Ah (connection with Max 2 batteries serial or 4 batteries parallel)

Class C Motorhome
They’re Class A motorhomes but smaller and built on a van or truck chassis. Every home comfort will be there, but simply on a smaller scale, including an over-cab bed. The outside of a van or truck chassis might be corrugated vinyl or a smooth piece of metal, and the living quarters are situated above the truck’s structure.

Typical Power System: 12-24 Volt systems powered by banks of 12V Lithium ion batteries
Shore Power Service: 30 - 50 Amp (Maximum Current)
Aolithium Battery Replacement: 12V100Ah (connection with Max 2 batteries serial or 4 batteries parallel)

5th Wheel
Only certain types of vehicles are capable of pulling an unpowered travel trailer. They’re usually extensive and reasonably priced, which makes them a good option. The fact that they can be left behind while away from the campground is the most appealing feature for many.

Typical Power System: 12-24 Volt systems powered by banks of 12V Lithium ion batteries
Shore Power Service: 30 - 50 Amp (Maximum Current)
Aolithium Battery Replacement: 12V100Ah (connection with Max 2 batteries serial or 4 batteries parallel)

Toy Hauler
A toy hauler’s most significant selling point is the rear-hinged drop-down gate. Motorcyclists, ATV riders, and those who travel on their vehicles can appreciate this. The inside furnishings are retracted into the ceiling or walls when your vehicles are loaded into the trailer.

Typical Power System: 12-24 Volt systems powered by banks of 12V Lithium ion batteries
Shore Power Service: 30 - 50 Amp (Maximum Current)
Aolithium Battery Replacement: 12V100Ah (connection with Max 2 batteries serial or 4 batteries parallel)

Travel Trailer
This type of camper comes in various sizes and allows up to 8 people to sleep for the night. Due to their cost and ability to be hauled by smaller cars, these compact campers are extremely popular.

Typical Power System: 12-24 Volt systems powered by banks of 12V Lithium ion batteries
Shore Power Service: 30 - 50 Amp (Maximum Current)
Aolithium Battery Replacement: 12V100Ah (connection with Max 2 batteries serial or 4 batteries parallel)

Pop-up
Because of their small size, lightweight, and portability, these trailers tend to be the most affordable. Like a pop-up tent, the camper transforms from a compact, “packed” form to a fully expanded one when attached to the trailer’s sturdy foundation.

Typical Power System: 12 Volt systems powered by banks of 12V Lithium ion batteries
Shore Power Service: 15 Amp (Maximum Current)
Aolithium Battery Replacement: 12V100Ah (connection with Max 2 batteries serial or 4 batteries parallel)
